Keep Going Keep Growing.

An article on the Longreads website called “How to Run 314 Miles After a Traumatic Brain Injury” is about a couple that have faced life altering challenges but have kept going with their lives. The Barcelona's are a family that picked up running as a hobby and continued with it even through their life's struggles they have faced.

After a car accident in 1994 Todd Barcelona suffered a traumatic brain injury. Todd being a family man had a wife, Allison, a daughter Ashleigh, and a son waiting for him at home when they got the call that he was involved in a car accident. Even though the event shook their family the Barcelona's did not give up on life, they took the challenge in stride. Todd and Allison started running as a hobby, even after the accident Todd kept going. They entered the 2023 Last Annual Volunteer State Road Race together which is a race that is 314 miles long. The author states "Chatting with two other runners, the Barcelona's entered Hickman. Todd stopped to take a photo of a black-and-white mural of Mark Twain. The author had once described Hickman as “a pretty town perched on a handsome hill.” Touches of Twain’s pretty town were still visible in the decorative brickwork and keyhole doorways of buildings along Hickman’s main drag, but few places seemed to be occupied. Even in the middle of a grueling race Todd stopped to appreciate the beauty of the town that surrounded them.

Even though the Barcelona's have been put through struggling times with Todd being so seriously injured they did not let life get the better of them. They kept doing what they loved and were even in the mind space to stop in the middle of a very difficult race just to admire the beauty of the world around them. If that doesn't show resilience, I do not know what would. It truly is an important aspect that people who have been dealt bad cards in life need to keep going in order to keep growing. Life doesn't stop at one inconvenience. There will always be problems, no one can control what will happen, but everyone can control how they handle what happens.
